Breaking the fourth wall

The fourth was is the screen in front of you in film, television and theatre, when you break the fourth wall the person speaking speaks directly to the audience.
There are many examples of breaking the fourth wall, one being in "Ferris Buellers Day Off". In the opening scene Ferris directly addresses the camera.

"Thoroughly Modern Millie" is another example of breaking the fourth wall, when something happens in the film she sometimes looks right into the camera and pulls a face as she's sharing a joke with the audience.

There are many other examples of films in which the characters break the fourth wall and either talk or gesture directly to the audience; "Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang", "Fight Club", "The Rocky Horror Show", "Annie Hall", "Rubber", "Amelie", "Austin Powers 2", "High Fidelity", "Spaceballs", "Wayne's World".
